Ricky's Run

Close to 150 riders took part in the 4th Annual Ricky's Run this past Saturday to raise money for the Ricky Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund, which gives out two $1000 scholarships to two Ashe County High School Seniors each year. The 113 mile ride wound it's way through the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Ride coordinator and Ricky's mother, Lucy Barker (above) , talks with a volunteer.

(Above and below) Bikes and riders wait in line at Ashe County High School for the start of the 113 mile ride.

Three riders (above) say a prayer of thanks for a safe ride after completing Ricky's Run.

O-line All-Star

I traveled to Greensboro last night to get some shots of Watauga High's Casey Augustine playing in the NCCA East-West All-Star game. Casey is the first Watauga football player selected to play in the game in over a decade.

Augustine will begin his collegiate career with Wingate this fall.

Run Joey Run!

My brother Joey (above) ran in the 5k portion of the first annual Ryan's Rock And Roll Run this past Saturday on The Greenway in Boone. I don't have the official times yet, but he finished the race in well under 30 minutes.

Over 100 runners participated in the 1 mile, 5k and 5 mile races to raise money and awarness of Ewing's Sarcoma.

Relay for Life

Luminaries line the track and spell out the word 'HOPE' during Friday night's relay for life event held at Ashe County High School.

Pictures of Pitchers

One of the first things I do when covering a baseball or softball game is get behind the backstop and snap a few direct shots of the pitchers going through their motions. It's a simple shot to get, and also a safe bet that an editor will be pleased in case nothing else comes out.

Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend:

Hot Rods at Church

I was driving through Beaver Creek and as I passed by St. Mary's Episicopal Church I saw a line of classic cars in the parking lot. I only had my 70-200 lens with a converter on my camera, so I was relegated to snapping a few shots of the hoods.

Skyline Telephone Ad

One of Skyline Telephone's ads for football season is featuring a photo they purchased from me. Some editing had to be done to change the jersey number and obscure K. Rich's face to comply with the NCAA.

Say Cheese!

My family from Pennsylvania was down for the 4th and I snapped this photo of my cousins, Amanda (left) and Sarah, at our cookout. Since it had been nearly a year since I had seen them, this was the best I got when I told them to "say cheese". Fortunately, they had lots more fun than their faces show, and Amanda even played a little soccer with me.

Noah and Logan (below) and Isabella (bottom photo) are much more used to my camera in their faces. Obviously.
