Playing For A Purpose

I jumped into a cart Saturday and photographed part of 13th Annual Carl Hagel Memorial Golf Tournament at Mountain Aire Golf Club. The tournament is held each year in the memory of current Moutain Aire Golf Club owner, Mark Hagel's father. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the 4-H Ashe Youth Connection.

Packer Revisited

The horse that made me okay with horses....

Pioneers Pound East Burke

I covered Watauga's softball and soccer home games against East Burke last night. From what little bit I got to actually watch of the matchups, The Pioneers dominated both games and it was evident from the start that E. Burke didn't stand a chance. Watauga's softball team improved to 8-10 with their win, while the soccer team moved to 10-4-2 overall this season.

Nicole Reilly (above) pitched a complete game shutout and Jennifer Ballew (right) scored a run in Watauga's 2-0 win.

Macy Johnson battles an E. Burke defender during the Pioneer's 5-0 rout over the Cavaliers.

Ashe Takes Soccer and Baseball Conference Wins

Ashe County's Shawnee Adams (above) and Itsy Price (below) each scored a goal as Ashe rolled past Starmount 4-0.

Husky pitcher Dustin Absher (below) threw 14 strikeouts over seven innings while Keaton Mash (bottom) went 1-3 with an RBI during Ashe County's 3-0 victory over the North Surry Greyhounds.

Shadow Games

Watauga High School's Steve Lake battles Trey Peterson of A.C. Reynolds Tuesday afternoon. Lake went on to defeat Peterson 6-2, 6-2.

Chimney Fire

Amid falling snow, members of the Warrensville Fire Department work to put out a chimney fire at a residence on Elliott Road. Quick work by the fire department quenched the fire before it could cause any damage to the home.

Warrensville Fire Department members Andy Scogin(left) and Brandon Hardin's(right) quick response kept the chimney fire from damaging the residence.

Tough Week For The Huskies

Following an 8-7 loss by the Husky's baseball team on Monday night to Forbush, Ashe County's softball team suffered an 10-1 loss at the hands of Surry Central Friday night. After recording 16 strikeouts in a win over Wilkes Central on Tuesday night, pitcher Kendra Yearick (above) gave up all ten runs in the loss.

Senior Kelly Hudler (below) and the Huskies struggled at the plate in their 10-1 loss.

Ashe Baseball Suffers Conference Loss

Senior Dustin Absher pitched all but the final inning in a 8-7 loss to conference rival Forbush Monday night at Ashe County High School.

Husky Head Coach Ronnie Pruitt could only scratch his head at the seventeen hits Ashe County gave up to Forbush in the loss.

Barns and Quilts

I took three different exposures of this barn by Mountain View Elementary School. I merged the three images and came up with this one.

Below are two more barns on Buck Mtn Circle in West Jefferson.

Upward Mobility

Senoir Alex Wolfe (above) made the leap from Ashe County's No. 8 seed last season, all the way up to No. 1 this season. Amazed at Wolfe's progression, Husky head coach Logan Freeman noted that in his twenty-two years of coaching, he has never seen a player make such a stride in such a short period of time.

Wolfe will lead the Huskies against Oak Hill Academy, Monday night at Ashe County High School.

Soccer Shut-Out

Ashe County's Mallory Clay (4)(above) and Itsy Price (12)(below) each scored a goal to help propel the Huskies to a 2-0 victory over East Wilkes on Wednesday night.

Pioneer Softball

Watauga Sophmore Maddi Bakken pitches against neighboring rival Ashe County Wednesday night.

Pioneer catcher Chandler Butler takes a lead off of 2nd base during Wednesday night's game.

Pitcher Maddi Bakken gets congratulated by Olivia Staley (9) after striking out another batter.
